NSS was inaugurated in 1969. The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme initiated by the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It offers an invaluable opportunity for students at colleges and universities across India to actively participate in a range of government-led community service activities and programs. The primary objective of NSS is to foster the development of students' personalities and character through voluntary community service. The core principle of NSS is "Education through Service."
In the academic year 2021-22, the NSS unit of Sree Narayana Guru College achieved remarkable recognition and accolades, standing out as the "Best NSS Unit" in Mumbai Suburb Zone III. Adding to this honor, our NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Mohammed Jabir, was awarded the "Best NSS Programme Officer". These accolades underscore our unwavering commitment to community service, social responsibility, and holistic development.
Throughout the year, our NSS unit actively engaged in a diverse range of community service initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on our college and the communities we serve. These activities not only reflect our dedication to social betterment but also exemplify the spirit of unity and compassion that defines our institution.
Our commitment to humanitarian causes extended to blood donation camps and Thalassemia check-up camps, conducted in collaboration with various Government Blood Banks. We facilitated vaccination drives for students and the surrounding community, contributing to overall health and well-being. Our belief in the importance of physical and mental wellness led to the organization of yoga programs, fostering holistic growth among our participants. Our creative talents shone through activities such as rangoli making, Poster making and street plays, which served as both artistic expression and vehicles for delivering essential messages.
Community health received special attention various environmental conservation drives, and educational sessions on topics ranging from de-addiction to cybercrime awareness. We actively participated in cleaning activities at public places including beaches, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship. Gender equality and social sustainability remained central themes throughout our activities, reinforcing our commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable society.
