NSS was inaugurated in 1969. The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme initiated by the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It offers an invaluable opportunity for students at colleges and universities across India to actively participate in a range of government-led community service activities and programs. The primary objective of NSS is to foster the development of students' personalities and character through voluntary community service.
The motto of NSS, “Not Me, But You,” reflects the spirit of selflessness, social responsibility, and empathy. It emphasizes that an individual’s well-being is deeply connected to the welfare of society at large. This motto encapsulates the essence of democratic living, promoting a sense of respect for others’ viewpoints, consideration for fellow human beings, and commitment to collective growth.
The overarching objective of NSS is the holistic personality development of students through active participation in community service , enabling them to become socially aware, responsible, and compassionate citizens.
